THE WINERY
We find the BODEGA CUEVA DEL VIENTO at the foot of the volcan Teide,
just outside of ICOD DE LOS VINOS at about 450 mts above sealevel. The
winery was founded by the german Bernd Fricke in 1988.Today his son
Robert Ehrentreich is responsable for the elaboration of the
prestigious wines named CUEVA DEL VIENTO.
The winery is situated in the basement and besides of the mansion and
ocupies about 600 square meters. The elaboration plant counts with the
most modern machinery. The production capacity of 135.000 l of wine per
year guaranties the supply to the local clients.
THE VINEYARDS OF
ICOD DE LOS VINOS
Local sources report the first plantation of vine in the year 1503 and
the first grape harvest in 1507 followed by the first elaboration of
wine.
Traditionally the vine is conducted on a wooden trestle. Nowadays with
the modernization of the local vineyards we also can see modern
plantations. Since the plague of "filoxera" never reached the canarian
islands the local vine plants live without inertion since more tha 500
years.
Thanks to the local microclimate and the rich volcanic soil our wines
are distinguished by their unique flavours and taste.

THE ISLAND OF TENERIFE
We can find Tenerife in the middle of the canarian islands between
Gran Canaria, la Gomera and La Palma with an extension of 2.034 km2.
She is the largest of all the seven islands and of vulcanic origen
which may be dated in the end of the tertiarium. The vulcan Teide,
(3.718 m), is the biggest of the island and the highest moutain of
Spain. There are living about 670.000 inhabitants on the island
distributed over 31 townships. The capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife with
its 230.000 inhabitants is a friendly and vivid city.
The variety of its climates from sea level up to Mount Teide results in
a wide variety of landscapes which oscillates from desert zones to
extended canarian pine woods and tertiary laurisilva, from subtropcal
valleys to the main wine growing regions at 300 to 800 m, resulting in
wide richness of ecosystems and local endemic flora and fauna.
There are 5 Denominations of Origin: Cumbres de Abona, Valle de la
Orotava, Valle de Guímar, Tacoronte Acentejo y Ycoden Daute
Isora.
THE DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN
YCODEN DAUTE ISORA
We find the region of the Denominación de orígen de
"YCODEN DAUTE ISORA" in the northwest of the island of Tenerife. It is
including the townships of San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha , Icod de
los Vinos, El Tanque, Garachico, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte,
Santiago del Teide y Guia de Isora.
The soils dedicated to the cultivation of grapes are mainly of the
composition of vulcanic rocks and ashes. The wineyards extend from 50m
to 1400m above sea level. About 1.1oo hectareas are inscribed with this
denomination of origin.
The grape varieties permitted in this region are:
White grapes: Bastardo blanco, Bermejuela o Marmajuelo, Forastera
blanca, Gual, Listán blanca, Malvasía, Moscatel, Pedro
Ximénez, Sabro, Torrontés, Verdello, Vijariego.
Red grapes: Bastardo Negra, Listán Negro, Malvasía
Rosada, Moscatel Negro, Negramoll, Tintilla, Vijariego Negra, y
Castellana Negra.
The climate of the soft northwest passat winds together with the
vulcanic soils, the abandoned microclimates of the region and modern
tecnology in combination with a large wine growing tadition make it
possible to elaborate wines with the following characteristics:
Very aromatic white wines with flowery and tropical fruits notes, of
pale yellow colour, brillant and clean.
The Rosé wines are fruity and vivid, in the nose we encounter
the aromas of red berries. The brillant colour of strawberries with
violet reflexes together with a long persisting mouth which reminds of
fresh grapes give them a special touch and make them unique.
The young red wines are of a nice and brillant colour of rubies togethe
with violet tones. They are manifesting their youth and remember the
nose of black berries and red cherries. They are fruity, and a large
mouth, structured and make that one remembers the forever.
