LISTÁN BLANCO: Variety which was brought to the islands from
the Iberian peninsular, also known in Andalusia as Palomino fino.
Without doubt this variety produces - thanks to our volcanic soil, the
trade wind and the microclimate - very special fragrancy and
taste.Ocupies about 70% of the local vineyards.
MARMAJUELO OR BERMEJUELA: Is a grape which develops a noble acidity
and floral aromas, was quite abandoned, but is gaining more and more
friends in the world of white wine lovers.
VIJARIEGO BLANCA: White grape that was brought from the Iberian
peninsular, and is gaining good aceptance in the last years. This grape
develops an elegant fruity taste with a fine acidity which lets you
remember the local herbal aromas.
MALVASÍA BLANCA: Was brought to the islands by portugese and
spanish sailors from the greek islands. Some centuries ago the whole
costal zone of Icod de los Vinos and Buenavista was occupied by the
malvasía grapes. It is known for the enormous capacity of
producing sugar, lets us produce sweet wines with 15 to 16 vol. %
alcohol. This was the grape that made the canary islands famous for
their wines.
LISTÁN NEGRO: Variety only grown in the canarian islads.
Ocupies about 25% of the local vineyards. Develops wines that let you
remember black cherries, is very fruity and has a nice ruby colour with
violet reflexes. The fruity and lightly mineral taste is typical to the
reds of Icod de los Vinos.It is also known by the name LISTÁN
PRIETO
NEGRAMOLL: Was brought from Portugal via Madeira. Provides our wines
with a high aromatic potential. Develops fine tannines. Elaboration of
this grape in conjunction with Listán negra results as a well
balanced dry red wine.It also supports the elaboration of crianza (red
wine aged in oak barrels).
CASTELLANA: This is a grape with very small berries and is ocupying
about 5 % of the local vineyards. It is grown from the coast to about
1000m sea level, and aports very much colour to the crop. Their is a
subspecies which is called TINTILLA, and its juice is already of a dark
red colour.
